BuildBase in your AI tools

Use BuildBase in ChatGPT

BuildBase in your AI tools: connect ChatGPT to BuildBase's own MCP server and manage your BuildBase organization from ChatGPT. You sign in as yourself, and ChatGPT can do only what your role and your organization allow.

Add BuildBase to ChatGPT

The address is the same in every AI tool: https://api.console.buildbase.app/mcp. BuildBase signs you in the first time ChatGPT connects.

  1. In ChatGPT, add a remote MCP server: Plugins > + > Add custom MCP server. Use the address https://api.console.buildbase.app/mcp.
  2. Sign in. Choose OAuth when you create the server, accept the warning, and ChatGPT opens the sign-in page. In a chat, type @ and pick the server.
  3. On BuildBase's sign-in page, sign in as you do to the console, then approve the consent screen, which names ChatGPT and what it asks for.
  4. Ask ChatGPT something, such as "List my BuildBase organizations."

The plan it needs

Full MCP needs ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu, on the web; Pro gets read and fetch only. On Business only admins and owners add a server. This comes from OpenAI's help center, so check the current list in ChatGPT before you start.

How sign-in looks in ChatGPT

Choose OAuth when you create the server, accept the warning, and ChatGPT opens the sign-in page. In a chat, type @ and pick the server.

What is different in ChatGPT

  • Turn single tools on or off on the server's details page. Any tool not marked read-only counts as a write, and ChatGPT asks before a write by default; you can remember a choice for the rest of a conversation.
  • BuildBase adds its own rules on top: each organization is Off, Read only or Read and change for AI agents (Read only by default), and deletes, member and role changes, sends and money moves need your approval in the chat.

If it does not work in ChatGPT

ChatGPT needs to sign in again
Open the server in Plugins and choose Refresh after anything changes on the server, then start a new conversation.
ChatGPT does not connect
ChatGPT connects from OpenAI's servers, so the address must be public HTTPS, with the /mcp path. Expand a tool call in the chat to see its input and output.
ChatGPT says the organization does not let agents in
An owner or admin sets the organization's AI agents setting in the console, under Account, then Security. Off turns every agent away, and an owner or admin can also block one agent for one member there.
ChatGPT cannot change anything
The organization is Read only, the default. An owner or admin can switch it to Read and change, and ChatGPT can then make changes without signing in again. Deleting, sending to an audience, roles and money still ask you to approve each change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which ChatGPT plan do I need?

Full MCP needs ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu, on the web; Pro gets read and fetch only. On Business only admins and owners add a server. This comes from OpenAI's help center, so check the current list in ChatGPT before you start.

Can ChatGPT change things in my BuildBase organization?

Only where the organization allows it: Read only is the default. Even then, deletes, member and role changes, sends and money moves need your approval in the chat, and secrets never reach ChatGPT.

Can I connect ChatGPT with an API key instead of signing in?

ChatGPT's documentation does not describe sending a key, so sign in as yourself. That also keeps each change in the audit log under your name.
